Daufuskie Island Vibes & Tides, presented by Haig Point Announces Dates and New Event Details

Daufuskie Island, SC (July 16, 2019) – This fall, Haig Point will be showcasing its inaugural major culinary event, Daufuskie Island Vibes & Tides. The boutique culinary event will take place October 18 – 20, 2019 at locations throughout the island, within the Haig Point community. Daufuskie Island, SC is known as the gem of the Sea Islands, with untouched majestic beauty, located between Hilton Head Island, SC and Savannah, GA, only accessible by boat or ferry.

Daufuskie Island Vibes & Tides will be a culinary and island experiential celebration, featuring a weekend of curated signature events throughout Haig Point’s historic settings, from “Beach Vibes” at the oceanfront Beach Club to a Gullah inspired “Heaven Blue Dinner” at the well-appointed Haig Point Clubhouse. Vibes & Tides will also showcase the finest culinary talent, wine, craft beer, spirits, artisans, music and more.

According to Doug Egly, CEO of Haig Point, “We are thrilled to be hosting Daufuskie Island Vibes & Tides on Haig Point this fall. It’s an opportunity to showcase the community and the island with renowned culinary talent, such as Alexander Smalls and Mashama Bailey, both 2019 James Beard Foundation Award Winners – along with some additional very talented regional and local chefs, live music, artisans, beverage experts and professionals.”

Friday, October 18, 2019: Welcome Reception at The Mansion, 3 – 6 pm – Enjoy a choice of arrival beverage and featured cocktails made with one-time recipes inspired by Daufuskie Island’s rich heritage and an incredible SEAcuterie display by Haig Point’s culinary team upon your arrival to the Island.

Friday, October 18, 2019: Beach Vibes at the Beach Club, 6:30 – 9:30 pm – An exciting oceanfront evening with some of the Lowcountry’s most celebrated local chefs, winemakers, brew masters and distillers, with a souvenir tasting glass. Active culinary stations on the deck, dining room and around the pool. Guests will be encouraged to dress in beach casual while they sample an incredible array of food and cocktails from Lowcountry chefs including: Haig Point Executive Chef Taylor Griffin and Executive Sous Chef Ian Gordon, Andrew Carmines of Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks, Clayton Rollinson of Lucky Rooster Kitchen + Bar, Tim Nelson of Whiskey Room and Orchid Paulmeier of One Hot Mama’s. Saturday, October 19, 2019: Island Experiences, morning and early afternoon times and locations throughout the island– Choose from a variety of add-on, ticketed experiences: May River Water Excursion by Boat, Interactive Indigo Dying Experience, Horseback Riding and more. Saturday, October 19, 2019: Heaven Blue Dinner, at the Clubhouse 6:30 – 9:30 pm– An intimate, once-in-a-lifetime evening with award-winning and acclaimed chefs, celebrating Gullah and Lowcountry heritage and history through extraordinary culinary creations. Join Alexander Smalls, 2019 James Beard Foundation award-winning cookbook, Tony and Grammy award-winning opera singer; Mashama Bailey, 2019 James Beard Foundation award-winning Best Chef Southeast and Executive Chef/Partner at The Grey in Savannah, GA; Roosevelt Brownlee, a celebrity in his own right, Benjamin (BJ) Dennis, the Gullah Chef, from Charleston, SC; Matthew Raiford, the Chef/Farmer from Brunswick, GA; Daufuskie Island’s own Sallie Ann Robinsonand the Haig Point culinary team for an interactive dining experience that harnesses history and celebrates the flavors of the present. Tasting stations/pairings with each chef’s dish will include a souvenir glass to sample wines, beers and cocktails, with live music. Each guest/couple will receive a signed cookbook from Alexander Smalls and Sallie Ann Robinson. The Gullah people traditionally use the color heaven blue on their homes to ward off ‘Haints’. Haints are restless spirits of the dead who, for whatever reason, have not moved on from their physical world. Haint blue (or heaven blue) can also be found on home door and window frames as well as porch ceilings on Daufuskie Island and throughout the Lowcountry. The paint color is intended to protect the homeowner from being ‘taken’ or influenced by haints.

Sunday, October 20, 2019: Brunch Before Boat, 10 am – 1 pm– Classic Southern brunch favorites and culinary stations from the Haig Point culinary team, with live music, Bloody Mary Bar, Champagne and Mimosas to enjoy before your departure. The finale to the weekend will be held on the “historic tabby lawn”. The tabby ruins located in Haig Point date back to the early 1800s and are three of the best-preserved tabby walled, single slave dwellings still standing. The foundation made of tabby at the base of the Haig Point Lighthouse is what remains of the Haig Point Plantation home which was the largest tabby domestic building erected in coastal South Carolina. Both the Haig Point Lighthouse and Tabby Ruins are not to be missed as they are both part of the National Register of Historic Places.

Haig Point is a private club and community located on Daufuskie Island, with world-class amenities and recreation, multiple historic points of interest and unparalleled water views. Haig Point offers its own private ferry service with 18 round trips daily from Hilton Head Island to and from Daufuskie Island for its residents and guests. Public ferry service is also available at Daufuskie Island Ferry.
