Welcome to the Future

We asked local younglings what they thought the future would look like—from inventions that would make life easier, to whether or not we would live on another planet. Here’s what they had to say…


Alexis Luckasevic
Age: 11
School: Hilton Head Preparatory School

What is your favorite subject currently?
My favorite subject is pre-algebra.

What would you invent to make life easier for your future self?
I would like to invent a way to pause
time whenever I’m running late.

As of right now, what occupation do you see yourself having in the year 2040?
I would really hope to see myself golfing for the PGA in 2040.

In the future, do you think we’ll ever live on another planet? If so, which one?
I don’t see myself living on another planet because people are so used to the climate on Earth, it would be really hard to adapt to. If we ruin Earth, there is no second chance.

Math

What would you invent to make life easier for your future self?
A Doing-Everything-Thing-a ma-Bob. It would make me pancakes, have a TV and a little basketball goal that pops out so I can shoot baskets. It would be something people can wear.

As of right now, what occupation do you see yourself having in the year 2040?
NBA player

What problem facing the world do you think will be the biggest when you are your parents’ age?
People are dying from the effects of today’s littering. There’s so much litter that the animals start dying, and then people eat the dead animals and they get sick and die.

Math. Because I’m really good at math.

What would you invent to make life easier for your future self?
A machine that could make toys and sweets.

As of right now, what occupation do you see yourself having in the year 2040?
A veterinarian. Because I like pets because they are soft.

What problem facing the world do you think will be the biggest when you are your parents’ age?
Other people starving and they don’t have homes.

In the future, do you think we’ll ever live on another planet? If so, which one?
No. Only Earth because we can’t breathe in outer space.

Math.

What would you invent to make life easier for your future self?
A car that runs of off the friction its wheels make.

As of right now, what occupation do you see yourself having in the year 2040?
A teacher and comedian, but my math teacher thinks I should be an engineer.

What problem facing the world do you think will be the biggest when you are your parents’ age?
Pollution, because at the rate pollution is happening now, it is only going to get worse.

I would have to say math is my favorite subject.

What would you invent to make life easier for your future self?
I would invent a machine that makes food out of thin air. That way we could eliminate the pollution that comes from food production.

What occupation do you see yourself having in the year 2040?
In 2040, I think I might actually be a singer.

“Poker Face,” by Lady Gaga.

Do you think we’ll ever live on another planet? If so, which one?
We could live on a different planet, but that would be like in 1,000 years. And if we did, it would
probably be on Mars because science shows there could have been dried up streams on Mars.

Maybe a YouTuber or diver; I might teach or work at the Island Rec Center helping kids.

A machine that could stop any machine that has an engine. So, if I become a police officer, we could stop another car in a chase.

A professional lawyer.

What problem facing the world do you think will be the biggest when you are your parents age?
Paying for land and buying enough food for my family to eat—and having shelter.
