The Italian-American Club of Hilton Head Island Announces New $1,000 Humanitarian Award in Honor of John Calamari

Hilton Head Island, SC – The Italian-American Club of Hilton Head Island (IACHH) is pleased to announce its inaugural “John Calamari Humanitarian Award” and first annual request for nominations. The purpose of the award, established in memory of one of the club’s founders, is to recognize those who demonstrate significant devotion to community service and human welfare.

In order to be eligible for this award, nominees must be residents of either Hilton Head Island or Bluffton and demonstrate the following: aiding those less fortunate; eliminating the pain and suffering of others; improving local residents’ lives; or making a significant difference to a club, organization, or individual. Candidates may be nominated by club members or the general public, and nominations must be received by December 1, 2012.

The award winner, determined by the club’s award committee and board of directors, will receive $500 from the club and $500 from the Calamari family, for a total award of $1,000 that will be donated to a charity of the recipient’s choice. About John Calamari
John Calamari (1932-2009), one of the founders of the Italian-American Club of Hilton Head Island and owner of ITS Classics for 25 years, lived and worked on Hilton Head for 28 years. He was devoted to his family, generous and loyal to his employees and many friends, and worked tirelessly in numerous ways to better the lives of community residents.

John was especially involved with youth programs, individuals with special needs and organizations that benefit the less fortunate. The club upholds his legacy and honors his memory through ongoing support for local charities and the establishment of the annual “John Calamari Humanitarian Award,” which recognizes individuals who demonstrate John Calamari’s ideals and incredible commitment to community service.
