Hilton Head Rotary Presents the Hilton Head Island Hall of Fame
Author: CH2 Press Release
At long last, Hilton Head Island will have a Hall of Fame to permanently enshrine the visionary people of the past and present who have had a lasting and extraordinary impact on our community! The Hilton Head Rotary Club, under the leadership of Mike Jukofsky, is launching the inaugural Hall of Fame program this fall. The initial honorees will be presented at a special event on November 1, 2012 at the Westin.
Deciding to have a Hilton Head Hall of Fame was the easy part – the hard part was determining the details! Who should be honored? What are the criteria for nomination? Who should select the nominees? Where will the wall be?
All of these questions, and many others, were discussed, answered and implemented by a committee of Hilton Head Rotarians. First the criteria for honorees: they will come from the 20th and 21st century only. (There may be an historical section of the Wall in future years.) Honorees may be living or dead. Honorees may live anywhere but must have had a positive, direct, pioneering and lasting impact on Hilton Head Island and its residents.
Who can nominate? Anyone can submit a nomination for the Hall of Fame! The Nomination Form is available on the website: www.hiltonheadislandhalloffame.com or on the Hilton Head Rotary website: www.hiltonheadrotary.org. All nominations must be submitted by September 28, 2012.
Who does the selecting? An anonymous group of longtime community members were chosen to select this first class of honorees. They will be reviewing nominations during the month of October, in preparation for the announcement on November 1st.
Where will the Wall be located – and what will be on the Wall? The Coastal Discovery Museum is working with the Hilton Head Rotary on the location of the Wall. A special tabby wall will be built along one of the Honey Horn paths. Each honoree will have a large bas relief bronze plaque which will be placed on the museum wall until the tabby wall is built.
The 2012 Honorees will be announced at the Legends of the Lowcountry Concert to be held on Thursday, November 1 at 6:00 at the Westin. Tickets are $ 50.00 and will include heavy appetizers and a jazz concert.
It is a sign of maturity that a community looks to its past to honor those who gave of themselves to make it a better place to live for all. It is only by standing on the shoulders of these giants that we can continue to steer a course to greatness.
