Belk Announces $2.7 Million Expansion and Remodeling Of Hilton Head Island, S.C. Store

Belk has announced a $2.7 million expansion and remodeling of its fashion department store at The Mall at Shelter Cove in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The project is designed to create an attractive and convenient new shopping environment and allow Belk to expand its assortments of the latest fashion merchandise to meet the growing needs of customers in Hilton Head and the surrounding region.

“This will be a phased project,” said Rob Jordahl, senior vice president of store planning and construction. “We will not vacate or close either Belk location at The Mall at Shelter Cove during the expansion and remodeling work.”

In the first phase of the expansion the main store was expanded into adjacent space in the mall by nearly 18,000-square-feet. The new area has been completely renovated to house expanded cosmetics, shoes, and ladies accessories departments. The Today’s Woman, juniors and children’s departments that were previously housed in separate locations within the mall were moved back into the main store. The Men’s and Home store remains in a separate building within the mall. The expansion project was completed this summer.

The second phase of the expansion and renovation project includes a full renovation of the main store that is scheduled for completion in September, with a grand re-opening celebration set for Oct. 14.

Belk at The Mall at Shelter Cove offers a wide selection of top designer and national brand apparel, cosmetics, accessories, shoes and home furnishings for the whole family. The store also features focused assortments of Belk’s exclusive private brand merchandise and a new Belk and Co. Fine Jewelers shop offering an outstanding selection of fine jewelry, watches and gifts.

“We’re excited about the expansion and renovation of our store,” said Scott Sutton, store manager. “It will enable us to better serve our loyal customers in this area by providing more of the top brands and products that they want. These improvements to our store are a sign of Belk’s ongoing commitment to be the department store of choice in Hilton Head.”

Belk has been serving the Hilton Head community since the store opened at The Mall at Shelter Cove 1988.

In September of 2006, Celebrate Hilton Head (CH2) burst onto the scene with a fresh perspective on Hilton Head Island, Bluffton and the surrounding Low Country. At the helm was a team of young women (all under 30!) with no experience whatsoever in the publishing industry. The first year they made up the rules as they went along. CH2 (and CB2 – Celebrate Bluffton and Beyond), now entering their third year , has evolved into a well-respected publication with over 150 advertisers and a distribution to over 47,000 locals and visitors each month.

Content ranges from Interesting Islander profiles and arts and entertainment pieces to food and wine topics and Hilton Head and Bluffton Business Profiles. CH2’s Bachelor of the Year Contest has blossomed into a greatly anticipated media event every year with viral marketing (i.e., Facebook, MySpace) contributing to the annual readership of those issues pertaining to the contest and over 700 people attending the Bachelor of the Year party held every October held at a local Hilton Head or Bluffton entertainment spot.

CH2 strives to give back to the community in which they have been so successful by sponsoring charitable events in both Hilton Head Island and Bluffton (Bluffton’s MayFest, put on by the Bluffton Rotary), donating editorial space to worthy organizations (Bold Strokes, Volunteers in Medicine, March of Dimes), and making the Hilton Head Island Rec Center the recipient of monies raised in conjunction with the Bachelor of the Year Contest.
