Author: CH2 Press Release

The Hilton Head Dance Theatre and local boutiques have come together for
Tea for Tutu – A Tutu Couture Runway Show. This unprecedented fashion show event held on February 21, 2009, will raise funds and awareness on behalf of the Hilton Head Dance Theatre. Though many stores and boutiques have supported their individual causes in the past, this event marks the first time so many have banded together to showcase Spring 2009 Fashion alongside vintage tutus and ballet costumes.

“We want to celebrate fashion, art and the unique styles of famous designers, including our own Karena Brock-Carlyle” said Kelly Smith Event Chair and Board Member for The Hilton Head Dance Theatre’s Tea for Tutu. “Traditionally this event hosted mothers, daughters and women of all ages to see local fashions, sample teas and sweets and learn about etiquette. I’m so glad we are bringing back this special tradition. We’ve added a new twist with the help of Tucker Model Agency, by turning our show into a true runway event.”

This “tutu couture” fashion show presented in February, is sponsored by Pink Magazine and the Tucker Model Agency. Tea for Tutu will feature a showcase of designs from children’s stores and women’s boutiques from in and around the lowcountry.

The Tucker Agency has donated their time and talent to the cause, by providing top models of all ages to strut the runway with local women, girls and Hilton Head Dance School Company Dancers.

During the fashion show, The Hilton Head Dance Theatre will hold a silent auction featuring specially-created designs by Karena Brock-Carlyle, including: a Handmade Sugarplum Tutu, Vintage Prima Ballerina Headpiece, toe shoes and more. All of the proceeds will go to The Hilton Head Dance Theatre. “Tea for Tutu offers a chance to get a rare look at our amazing tutus and costumes. It’s one thing to see these creations on stage and another to see them up close,” said Kelly Smith. “Our goal is to keep the spotlight on art, but the message here is
that everyone – not just celebrities and fashion designers – can enjoy high-fashion and make a difference at the same time.”

Since its first run in 1997, Tea for Tutu has provided an exceptional look into the art of fashion. Indulging in delightful sweets, English teas and fashion has given women of all ages a chance to spend an incredible afternoon together while
learning simple Southern etiquette.

Participating designers include Gigi’s Boutique, Island Child and S.M. Bradford and many more.

Adult tickets are $40.00, $20.00 for Children 16 and under. All tickets include refreshments, food and gift bags. Tickets are available at Burke’s Pharmacy or online at www.TeaForTutu.com.
