A Word from Foster McCarl

Dear voting community,

What makes me more eligible than the other nine bachelors? I’m not sure that I can rightly answer that. I honestly don’t know them very well. With the exception of sharing 2 minutes on stage and a one day photo shoot I haven’t even spent a lot time around them. They all seem to be nice guys, as far as I can tell. Am I more bacheloresque? More available? More qualified? Webster defines a bachelor simply as an unmarried man. By that definition, I am qualified.

I moved here last summer after almost a decade in Los Angeles. Yes, it is a bit of a change. Yes, I miss it. Yes, I go back as often as I can. I moved here to be closer to my family. I was a full-time single parent in Los Angeles with no family to assist. I decided to come out here for family support and to allow my daughter to experience the ups and downs of living near her family (mostly ups). The transition has been great for my daughter, but a bit difficult for me. Not many people move to Bluffton to take advantage of being single, so dating has been a struggle. Which brings us to the contest.

The position of “Most Eligible Bachelor” is a dubious honor. Any eligibility is a welcome classification in most senses . . . but being a 35-year-old single parent is not exactly what I was aspiring for in grade school. That being said, I am happy with my life and wouldn’t trade one minute that I have lived for something different, lest I change what is now my reality. I do have a spectacular 7-year-old daughter. I won’t use her to tug at your heartstrings for votes. Save it to say that I am a good father and my daughter continually softens my heart and teaches me to be a better man.

My sister, Erin, nominated me probably because she was as tired of me being single as I was. She is a great person and always very supportive and loving. Her heart is in the right place. If I would win, I am planning on giving most of the money away. Not that I don’t want it, or can’t use it, but it’s not really mine. It’s based on a contest that takes into account people’s perception of my words and actions for who I am today, which is really based on my upbringing, struggles, and mistakes throughout my life. Anyway, my parents always raised my sister and I to give back to the community.

My grandfather was instrumental in the growth and ongoing success of an organization near my hometown of Beaver Falls, PA called McGuire Memorial. They help kids with severe physical disabilities. I can’t do them justice with my words, so check out their link www.mcguirememorial.org. I will donate 1/3 in honor of my grandfather who passed away 3 years ago.

When I moved to Bluffton I needed to get involved in something to help people. I was fortunate enough to find Heroes on Horseback. Heroes helps children with mental, physical, and emotional disabilities through equine therapy. As is the ongoing joke: “They think I’m there to help them.” Once again, you’ll have to go to their website to see how instrumental they are in the lives of local children and their families; www.heroesonhorseback.org. I will donate 1/3 in honor of the brave kids and volunteers.

I was going to give a rundown of things about me, but if you want to know more, vote for me as I’m sure they have a plethora of questions saved up for the last bachelor standing.

Thanks for your time and consideration,

Foster

Bachelor Questionnaire

Q: You are the starring role in one movie already made- what movie would you pick, and which actor would play you?
A: Say Anything…Ryan Reynolds

Q: If you could have a super natural power what would it be and why?
A: Teleportation. Come on, to be able to go anywhere at any time? It’s just too cool.

Q: If you could steal one thing in the world without getting caught what would you take?
A: The original Triptych – “Garden of Earthly Delights” by Hieronymus Bosch.

Q: What would you have named yourself, if you had the option?
A: I did. I was born Jeffrey James McCarl. When I was in third grade, I went to court to change my name to Foster, because that was my Father’s, Grandfather’s and Great Grandfather’s name.

Q: Which 1 year of your life would you relive and why?
A: I don’t think I would. Every part of my life, including my perception of bad ones, makes me who I am.

Q: If you just won CH2’ Bachelor of the Year who is the first person you would call? (This is a trick question, you have to keep it a secret until the magazine comes out January 1,2010)
A: I’d say both my mom and sister, but it’s almost an instant exchange of information from one to the other anyway, so I would say my mom, out of respect.

Q: What is your favorite thing to watch on TV? What is your least favorite thing to watch on TV? (Be specific. Example: If Sports are your favorite pick a one. If Reality TV is your least favorite pick a show.)
A: The Office is my favorite. Three way hate tie between Survivor, Big Brother and Wipe-Out

Q: What would your entrance music be?
A: “Sympathy for the Devil” by the Rolling Stones. Heavy on the bongos please.

Q: If you could be famous for something you don’t currently do what would it be?
A: Playing live music.
