Celebrate Something Special

Author: Lindsey Hawkins

La-di-da-di, who likes to party? The real question is who doesn’t like to party? Since the start of civilization, cultures all over the world have been celebrating with food, drink and dance to praise the gods, mourn the lost, and bless the new. Hilton Head Island is certainly no stranger to the times when it comes down to getting down, and 365 days a year means 365 fabulous well-weathered reasons to celebrate.

Galas, festivals, weddings, corporate events, anniversaries, holidays, family reunions, theme parties, barbecues, bachelor parties—if you can dream it, you can pull it off with style, and for months to come, we are going to tell you where and how.

Whether you are in the mood to play host or hostess with the most-est or hire someone to make you look like the host or hostess with the most-est, throwing a party is well worth the effort to see smiling, laughing faces. And sometimes it’s even worth more the next day, at the office or over coffee, when you can talk about how those smiling, laughing faces danced at your event.

With smiles, waves and good times being reason enough for anyone to have a party, the amount of thought that needs to be put into planning the perfect event (even down to the neighborhood barbecue) can be overwhelming. You have to answer the major questions: who, what, when, where, why and how much and go from there, like drawing a family tree. The most essential questions, however, are the why and the where, because the answers to these questions create the theme and the atmosphere of your event. But don’t sweat it; save that for the dance floor, and we will help you with the rest.

The best way to celebrate life is with friends and family, and Hilton Head Island alone has hundreds of options and entertaining venues available for locals and visitors. Everyone wants to throw a party or event that will be remembered, so it’s time think outside of the Ruffles potato chips and French onion dip. We have been gathering suggestions and professional tips from catering companies, event planners and specialty vendors to help your creative party juices start flowing.

“We find that more clients are thinking outside of the box and not so traditional any more. Our clients spend a lot of time watching all these new wedding and event shows and these great ‘City’ Events. They bring these ideas to us and it’s our job to put our own spin on it and make their vision come true,” said Molly Kennedy of Celebration Events Catering. “We’ve had a lot of fun lately with Chinese lanterns, custom linens of all colors, chivari chairs, sea glass, candy bars, sparkler farewells, boat exits vs. limo exits, fireworks, mariachi bands, specialty drinks like butler passed Mojito’s, antique cards, carriage rides, etc. Carnival themes and pets being in ceremonies are some new big trends, along with wedding cakes that mirror the bride’s dress, and incredible specialty lighting from companies like our local Low Country Lights.”

Hilton Head Island is known for being a beautiful venue in its entirety, so it becomes easy to make even block parties, potluck dinner parties and housewarming parties into fun, unique affairs at any budget. Well-known creative vendors all over the island, including Affairs to Remember rental equipment, John Brackett Photography, Photography by Anne, Celebration Events Catering, Sandstone Catering, All About Me, Faces Day Spa, Great Lengths by Danielle, Heritage Fine Jewelry, Chocolate Canopy, the Island Fudge Shop and others are at your fingertips to help you celebrate something special.

Of course, what’s a party without a smashing location? Our visitors and locals are blessed to have hundreds of options for any theme and occasion. From outdoor to indoor, small and intimate to large and extravagant, you don’t have to look very far. Islanders have access to large beach rental properties, party boats, yachts, hotels, casual and fine dining restaurants, plantations, parks and more. Wherever your dream location, there will all most always be someone there to create the space and event you desire.

“We offer a tremendous atmosphere for those looking for a cosmopolitan affair with an ocean view,” said Chris Katon, general manager of Aqua Grille and Lounge.

The island can offer posh, city-like atmosphere in addition to amazing outdoor venues more representative of traditional island living, such as Honey Horn Plantation. Whatever the occasion or theme you can find a perfect venue or have one created. CH2 is going to jump start your party planning for the year. Just remember that the sky really is the limit on Hilton Head Island and so are the food, drinks and reasons to celebrate!
