Brooke's Bed and Biscuit

Author: Anne Feldman

This Valentine’s Day, be true to your sweetheart. And what could be a better gift than a day or two of pampering? You’ll be thanked with a big kiss and a bark. Yes, we’re talking about your sweet pooch or kitty.

How about a day in the country? At Brooke’s Bed & Biscuit, a luxury boarding kennel, your pets will be well cared for and have a fabulous time. So, if you want to get away with your other sweetheart, you can leave with a happy heart, knowing that your best friends are in the best of hands.

Brooke’s Bed & Biscuit is a welcoming home away from home—a Lowcountry charmer in pale yellow with green trim, the dogs can hardly wait to cross the front porch! Owner Brooke Fisher welcomes each pet by name, and all are equally happy to see her, knowing they’ll get to visit their dog friends for social time outside in the spacious, fenced exercise yards, and perhaps take a dip later in the splashing pool on the shaded portico. If your pooch prefers personal attention, it can have a good run playing Frisbee or fetch.

“Your pet can stay for a day or a week,” said Fisher, “even an afternoon of pampering!” Groomers Chris, Olivia and Lisa will fluff and buff your little beauty with a shampoo, comb and trim, do his nails, clean his ears, and a treat him with a sweet heart-shaped dog cookie.

Always an animal advocate, Fisher and her family custom built the kennel seven years ago. It just happens to be where she met her future husband. Keith was the electrician, and as they say, “sparks flew.” Two children and seven cats later, not to mention five dogs and two guinea pigs, the rest is history! “I have to say, we have a full house, but two-year-old Brendan and one-year-old Gage love it!” said Fisher.

The 12,000 square-foot indoor facility is well-lit and climate controlled with state-of the-art heating and air systems to ensure the highest quality environment. Amenities include a soothing background music system, indoor exercise area and oversized double runs with patented cleaning systems. All costs are inclusive; dogs are exercised four times daily and each pet guest is given individualized personal attention. For pets that prefer privacy, luxury furnished suites await, with doggie beds, movie screens and a selection of dog-appropriate movies such as Lady and the Tramp. A small animal room for puppies or older animals keeps pets stress-free; rabbits, guinea pigs and birds are also welcome. Cat owners will be happy to hear about the private sound-proof feline room—no barking—with spacious kitty condos, play area and windows with an outside view.

In addition, many happy cats and dogs owe their loving homes to Brooke’s Bed & Biscuit, which has placed over 300 stray pets and also takes in overflow pets from the Hilton Head Humane Society. Young dogs Wiley, Sammy, Ginger and Annie, from the Jasper County Animal Rescue Mission, are waiting now for the right family, along with beagle puppies Lulu and Lola—although Lulu might be getting a new home with Sheri who brought her dog, Tubey, in for a grooming. Thinking that Turbey might need a friend, Sheri was seen holding Lulu in her arms…

Doggie Day Camp is another fun way to reward your pooch with a little supervised socialization. (Drop off as early as 8 a.m. and pickup at 6 p.m.). This could work if you’re putting in long hours at the office or you’ve got a little shopping to do and don’t want to leave your sweet pet at home moping. Maybe round off the day with a little professional grooming. Doggie Day Camp can be the perfect drop-in solution, or scheduled on a weekly basis.

We know you love your pets and your pets love you. Of course you only want the best for them. Brookes Bed & Biscuit, off Buck Island Road in Bluffton, is one nice way to show your love.
