Lettrs: Putting the Personal Touch on all your Holiday Gifts

Author: Teresa Fitzgibbons

Finding that perfect holiday gift has never been easier. For the holidays and throughout the year, a plethora of unique gifts awaits at Lettrs at Main Street, where each and every item in the store, as well as customer-owned merchandise, can be personalized for the recipient.

“Everyone enjoys getting something personalized,” said Debbie Timen, owner of Lettrs. “It takes an ordinary item and makes it extraordinary. It creates a one-of-a-kind gift that shows the giver really put thought into getting something special.”

Whether it’s a monogram, complete name, or nickname, personalizing a gift adds that extra something special, no matter what the occasion—for holidays, birthdays, thank-yous, anniversaries, baby showers, weddings or even a simple token of friendship. Lettrs offers everything from handbags and totes to linens and towels to silver jewelry and jewelry boxes. The store also has a selection of cards, stationary, and invitations—printed in-house and sent out—as well as items sure to delight children. Well-known brand merchandise such as Eliza B’s sandals, belts, totes, and hairpieces and loveys and blankets from Little Giraffe and Bunnies by the Bay are also available. Lettrs also offers a wide array of home accessories including serving platters, dishes, picture frames, and hand-painted wine glasses. There are also plenty of candles, soaps, napkins, and scented items to complement these gifts or to give on their own.

“We have great hostess gifts, especially for the holidays,” said Debbie. “You can put together a hostess gift here for less than $20.00.”

Everything in the store can be personalized. Debbie’s husband Ken engraves silver jewelry, jewelry boxes and aluminum items right in the store. Lettrs also provides full service embroidery of names or monograms, either on their own or accented with borders or even designs on clothing, towels, totes, purses, and other gifts. With literally hundreds of fonts, colors, styles of lettering, and design patterns to choose from, embroidery by Lettrs is truly spectacular. Vinyl lettering, done with sign-quality vinyl is also available for acrylic items, candles, license plates, and other goods. In addition, Lettrs hand paints select gifts such as rocking chairs, picture frames, and candles.

“We do everything ourselves—our own engraving, our own embroidery work, vinyl lettering, and painting; it makes for a quick turnaround time which is key for our customers,” said Debbie. “We’ll also personalize things that you bring in. We don’t limit our customers to things they buy here.”

Lettrs’ normal turnaround time for personalizing items is three days, though it may be a little longer during the holiday rush. Debbie stresses that she’ll do everything she can to accommodate emergencies when necessary. “We’ll even be stitching Christmas Eve if we have to,” she said.

Customer service always comes first at Lettrs. The store also does digitizing if someone wants a particular logo or pattern, say a company logo, stitched on a shirt, hat, or towels. With so many gifts at so many various price points, Lettrs is the ideal place to shop for golf tournament or raffle prizes and party favors.

“Monogramming has really made a comeback,” said Debbie. “It’s always been popular in certain areas, especially upscale places, the South, and Northeast. But now, it’s become a national trend.”

Lettrs will be celebrating its third anniversary in February. Debbie and Ken are no strangers to retail. The Ohio natives used to own two retail stores in Shelter Cove, but when the space became available in Main Street, they decided to give a personalized gift store a try. “I’ve always liked the look of personalized items,” said Debbie. “So far, this has been really fun. It’s a unique store and it’s done really well. It’s full-service personalizing. The only limitation in this store is your imagination.”

Lettrs is located between Reilley’s Wine and Spirits and Burke’s Pharmacy at 1003 Main Street. Store hours are from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Call 682-3450 for special holiday hours.
