Adventure Cove

Hilton Head Island is a destination that has become synonymous with the game of golf. People come from all points of the globe to test their skills against our legendary fairways and rolling greens set amid sub-tropical splendor.

But the true champions of the sport know that some of the best golf on the island comes when you think small—specifically, the 36 holes that meander up and over, across and down, throughout, over and under at Adventure Cove.

Now we’re not trying to tell the folks sponsoring the Heritage how to do their job, but if they really wanted to test the skills of the world’s greatest golfers, they should hold the tourney at the Lost Lagoon course. Winding up, down around and through a cave, these 18 holes push your short game to its limit. So, what tips can Michael Moses, owner of Adventure Cove along with his wife Marissa, share in tackling this course?
“You never need to hit as hard as you think you do. Lay up when possible.”

Of course, Moses is quick to point to the falsity of the myth that owning a putt putt course makes you better at it (ask him about the water hazard on 17). If you’re in the same boat, or if you have younger golfers along, you can always hit the uniquely azure-tinted links (which in this case should be called blues) of the Paradise Falls course.

The course is just part of the exhilaration that awaits at Adventure Cove, the island’s premiere family fun park. Inside you’ll find all the flashing lights and excitement of the Vegas Strip in a spacious arcade packed with new favorites and time-honored classics. You can true your hand at Skee-Ball, score stacks of tickets on the dizzying array of skill games, play your friends for bragging rights at air hockey or simply blast your way through wave after wave of killer robots on the Terminator machine.

Once you’re done, take your tickets over to the counter and choose from prizes that range from the classic Chinese finger traps to the extravagant. Moses recommends hitting up the Monster Ball machine if you’re looking for that big payout of tickets. Speaking of big ticket, there are two machines where your luck and skill could earn you serious prizes ranging from a PlayStation 4 to a set of Beats headphones.

“Between iPads, X-Boxes, drones, TVs, Go Pros, Apple Watches and anything else you can imagine, we’ve given away quite a few,” Moses said. “You can say Best Buy likes us a lot.”

Best Buy isn’t alone in that. Since the Moses’ purchased the venerable family fun park, they’ve done massive improvements to breathe new life into a place with decades of history. And they’re just getting started, with Michael teasing a complete refresh of the arcade coming soon.

“We’re a family owned and operated business, and since we’re here on the ground, we’re able to read and react to what the guests want,” he said. “We really listen.”

Which can only mean even bigger and better things for Adventure Cove’s future.
