Every Wednesday this summer, the Village at Wexford is the place to be on Hilton Head Island, as the premier shopping village offers the community its fun-filled summer “Wednesdays at Wexford” series of family-friendly events. In addition to The Market—an outdoor farmers market featuring local homegrown “eats and treats,” open every Wednesday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. during July and August—the Village at Wexford is also offering exciting weekly events for kids of all ages, making “Wednesdays at Wexford” not only wonderful, but a must-see, and must-do, for everyone in the Hilton Head Island area.

With more than 30 of the Lowcountry’s top merchants and four award-winning restaurants, the Village at Wexford (located at 1000 William Hilton Parkway on Hilton Head Island) is enjoyed by both residents and visitors as a premier shopping and dining destination year-round. During the summer months, though, the Village at Wexford truly transforms into a unique and exciting shopping destination and experience for all, with Wednesday Shop Specials throughout the village, consisting of truly local small businesses and boutiques, as well as weekly family entertainment that is uniquely Lowcountry, representing summer in the South.

Strolling through the open-air farmers market, while also having the opportunity to enjoy the many shops and dining options at the Village at Wexford, is a great way to spend a Wednesday afternoon this summer. And with free family activities and exciting entertainment, the Village at Wexford offers families a great way to spend the day together. All family “Wednesday at Wexford” events are free, with donations requested to support the local causes associated with each event.

Here’s just some of what is sure to make Wednesdays so wonderful at the Village of Wexford this July (and be sure to check the VAW website for a rundown of August events, as well!):

Wednesday, July 5 – Sea Turtle Talk (sponsored by Island Child) 4-5 p.m.
An opportunity to learn all about sea turtles, loggerhead nesting on Hilton Head Island, the Sea Turtle Protection Project, and how you can help. The event will feature special guests, the Hilton Head Mermaid and Willy the Pirate, with photo opportunities and coloring stations. In addition, gelato available right next door is a great way to keep cool and enjoy all that the Village at Wexford has to offer!

Wednesday, July 12 – Habitat for Humanity Lego Build Challenge 3-5 p.m.
Families will have a chance to build a “home,” just like the volunteers from Habitat, and learn about what makes this a great community cause. Lego builds will be posted online and entered in the Lego Build Challenge competition, with prizes awarded for the “Best Build.”

Wednesday, July 19 – Junior Jazz Festival Concert (sponsored by the Jazz Corner) 1-4 p.m.
Enjoy an afternoon of live music performed by participants of the Junior Jazz Camp. This is an inspiring opportunity to see live, local talent showcased in an open-air setting. Lemon-AID stand will be serving up refreshments, with all proceeds benefiting the Junior Jazz Foundation.

Wednesday, July 26 – Lowcountry Critters, presented by Critter Management 3-4:30 p.m.
Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with the kids as they get up-close-and-personal with Lowcountry creatures (gators, chickens and raccoons, among others). This is a great chance to interact with our region’s “critters” and learn more about a wide variety of animals and how to protect them.

In addition to these weekly events, the Mermaid of Hilton Head and Willy Hilton the Pirate will be on the Island Child patio every Wednesday from 4-6 p.m., with photo opportunities and crafts for the kids.
