Tony Award-Winning Star of Hamilton: Leslie Odom, Jr. To Highlight Arts Center’s Summer Gala

Author: Andrea Gannon

The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina is thrilled to bring star of stage, TV and film, Leslie Odom, Jr., to be the spotlight of its Summer Gala to be held Saturday, June 24.

Odom is best known for winning the “Best Actor for a Musical” Tony Award in 2016 for his portrayal of Aaron Burr in the Broadway sensation Hamilton. Along with his castmates, he also won a Grammy Award for “Best Musical Theater Album,” as a principal vocalist in the cast album of Hamilton.

Though there will no doubt be nods to the award-winning production in his musical performance on the 24th, Odom’s signature sound is smooth, silky jazz with soulful new interpretations of beloved songs from his recently released self-titled CD, which debuted at No. 1 on iTunes.

This summer, Odom will be seen on the silver screen as Dr. Arbuthnot in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming adaptation of feature film Murder on the Orient Express, which is already being touted as one of the season’s sure-to-be biggest blockbusters. On TV, he has appeared on numerous shows including Law and Order, Smash, Person of Interest and more, and is currently in the Nationwide Insurance commercial, singing “Nationwide is on your side!”—and that jingle has never sounded more melodic.

The Arts Center’s summer benefit is fittingly titled “A Very Tony Gala.” All to be held at the Arts Center, the magical night begins with a festive reception of heavy hors d’oeuvres and open bar, followed by an exciting, but limited, live auction, featuring one-of-a-kind experiences and carefully curated items.

Held in the Elizabeth Wallace Theater, the auction will be emceed by local celebs Andrew Davis (WSAV) and Marc Stuckart (Merrill Lynch), with a short intermission, followed by the main event: the performance of Leslie Odom, Jr.

Gala tickets begin at $175 and include the performance, open bar, and the festive reception with scrumptious food by Celebrations Catering. Proceeds benefit year-round outreach and educational programming for the Arts Center.

To be a part of this “Very Tony Gala,” call Julie Hahn, senior director of ticket services for the Arts Center at (843) 686-3945, ext. 100.
