Nail Talk & Polished Spa: Island Pampering and Polish

In 1997, Alex Ta had a student visa that took him from his hometown of Da Nang, Vietnam, located on the shore of the East Vietnam Sea, to the California Pacific Coast, on to Seattle, Macon, Georgia, and finally to the Atlantic Coast and Hilton Head Island. Merging his business expertise, hotel, restaurant management training, and Hilton Head Island spa experience, Ta opened his nail salon in 2013 and expanded the business a year later, adding square footage and spa treatments at Nail Talk & Polished Spa.
With services ranging from manicures, pedicures, facials, and massages, to makeup application, eyebrow waxing, and wedding day and special event services, Ta has created a relaxing atmosphere where his team of skilled technicians provide superior services for ladies and gentlemen. “I have very friendly people working here who are all licensed technicians,” he said. Each member of his crew keeps current with the latest products and services through continuing education opportunities. With nail technicians, masseurs, skin and brow specialists, and talented professionals, like renowned makeup artist Linda Burton, available for special events, Nail Talk & Polished Spa creates a relaxing, soothing nail and spa experience for visitors and locals.
The spacious salon offers ample room to host wedding and special event parties under the crystal chandelier in their comfortable, sparkling lounge. Offering wine or champagne to toast the occasion, Ta invites customers to bring their own treats and noshes, and to schedule time for pampering and celebration before the celebration. “We have a nice space for a party to spread out, relax and enjoy the treatments,” Ta said.
According to Ta, Nail Talk is the only salon on the island with 1,000 nail polish color choices, and some of the area’s comfiest treatment chairs. Along with their extensive palette options, they offer several sought-after manicure and pedicure treatments. Dip powder, a popular alternative to acrylic nails, a nail enhancement technology that has become the go-to-fix for broken or split nails, is laid over the customer’s natural nails, creates a non-porous, lightweight, soft, durable finish, that does not damage the nailbed. “We were one of the first salons on the island to offer Dip powder,” Ta said. Not only used to repair damage, Dip powder manicures and pedicures are the fastest growing method of color application in the salon business. “It is organic and makes your nails very, very strong.”

Nail Talk & Polished Spa is the only salon on Hilton Head Island offering whitening Lime manicures and pedicures, Ta said. “They are good because they naturally make your nails brighter and cleaner.” In addition to getting nails into beautiful condition, smokers and customers with stained or yellowing nails benefit greatly from this cutting edge method. Hot stone pedicures are also offered at Ta’s salon. Hot stones are applied to the leg along the calf, and on the foot, administering a deeply warming regimen that is targeted to increase circulation. In addition to myriad manicure and pedicure options, Ta’s team provides gentle, effective callus removal. Customers will also find a wide selection of polishes, lotions, anti-fungal products, nail strengtheners, and files for sale.
Spa services are offered in lovely, sanitary treatment rooms where the colors are soothing, the hot towels oh so cozy, the shower is cleansing, where licensed aestheticians administer treatments using exceptional dermatological products and the masseurs provide knot-melting manipulation. “Each room is a little different,” Ta said. “They’re all peaceful, pretty colors with calming lighting.”

Providing customers with a sanitary nail and spa experience is always a priority. Ta and his staff offer individual throw-away manicure/pedicure kits; nail clippers and non-disposable stainless utensils are machine-sanitized and packaged in sealed bags after each use; and the one-use pedicure bowl liners are changed between customers. “It’s important that we give each customer special personal care,” Ta said.
A Hilton Head Island resident, Ta is a member of the Hilton Head Island Chamber of Commerce and supports the local community and local charities through service donations whenever possible. With his sister and his niece working at Nail Talk & Polished Spa, Ta has built a home and a business where the Atlantic view is quite similar to the East Vietnam Sea home he left 19 years ago, and where he looks forward to greeting his customers for many years to come.
