Spotlight on Root Vegetables: Know Your Roots

Radish
A root vegetable related to the turnip and horseradish family, with a crisp texture and a peppery hot flavor. The hotness of the radish varies from mild to very strong, depending on the
age and type.

Beets
The color of a beet is a good indicator of the sweetness. The darker the beet, the more sweet it is.

Onion
Several varieties of onions are available all year round, but their prime season is spring and summer.

Garlic
Garlic can be kept in a cool, dark, dry place for 4-6 months. However, it is best used within a few weeks.

Carrot
Carrots have a sweet flavor, which make them great for baking cakes, muffins and cookies

Potatoes
When selecting potatoes, choose those that are firm and plump.
