August 2016: Editor's Note

It was a very busy month here at the Intergalactic Federation of CH2. Many Bothans died to bring you this issue. (Just kidding. No one died. But the first person to e-mail me what movie that is from, along with the name of the person who said it, gets a cool $100 cash. My e-mail address is somewhere on this page.)
Bailey, our social media experience czar, had reason to celebrate all of her efforts when our Instagram account hit 1000 followers. We were sort of late to the Insta party (because we aren’t 15), so that was pretty exciting. In other social media news, we held our second Facebook photo contest and received over 125 submissions. Some of them, while adorable, were completely out-of-focus and low res, but we still appreciate the effort. Keep working at it kids! You could be the next Annie Leibovitz.
We published your Top 10 favorites (page36), and our team agreed with the masses and declared Donna Oldt-Zigelstein the official winner of the $500 prize. Unfortunately, her photo wasn’t in the correct orientation for our cover, so we chose two others from the contest entries—one for CH2 and one for CB2. I have to admit that the frog in the flower (CH2 cover) was my personal favorite out of all the entries. The composition and color scheme is just beautiful, and its simplicity works perfectly as a cover shot.
In celebration of our 10-year anniversary (next month!), we decided to bring back that which arguably put us on the map as a brand new publication: the Bachelor of the Year contest. We’ve decided to switch it up a bit with an increased prize of $10,000. The winner will receive $5,000, and $5,000 will go to the 501©3 charity of the bachelor’s choice. Check out the good-looking group of guys who have been nominated so far, along with the charities they are playing for, on page 38. Our big party to determine and announce the Top 10 will be at Poseidon on October 21 and will benefit the Island Rec Center, so save the date. We’ll have more nominees in our September issue, so stay tuned!
I’d like to welcome two new writers to the CH2 team: Angela Krysevig and Ashley Trexler. Both take on the challenging world of being a mother in articles that deal with the not-so-sunny side of parenting (page 99) and being pregnant (87). Their voices are honest and the stories thought-provoking. I hope to have them contribute on a regular basis in the future.
Enjoy these dog days of summer—until next month…
