Spring is in the Air at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina: Get the party started with Music and Taste
Author: Linda S. Hopkins
It’s about time…time, that is, for some serious outdoor fun at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina. Beginning Thursday, March 24 and continuing every Thursday through May 19, from 6-9 p.m., you are invited to shake off the winter blues and slip into your dancing shoes at Music and Taste on the Harbour. Now in its eighth season, the highly anticipated and wildly popular event takes place in the Mediterranean-style waterfront setting at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, where you can enjoy music, food, dancing, shopping and a breathtaking sunset. Best of all? Admission is free!
Each week (weather permitting) the area’s most popular bands will set the tone with tunes to get you up on your feet and moving to the beat. Deas Guyz will kick off the spring outdoor concert series on March 24 with a mix of Motown, rhythm and blues, pop, rock, reggae and dance beats. On March 31, The Headliners, one of the most in-demand bands in the Southeast, take the stage for your listening and dancing pleasure.
Meanwhile, your favorite harbor-front restaurants will be offering specially priced light appetizers, beer, wine and cocktails for sale at the foot of the Neptune statue. On March 24, all six restaurants will be represented. In the following events, two select restaurants will provide food each week, allowing you to sample the fares of the fabulous Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina restaurants.
Of course, all six waterfront restaurants (Bistro 17, Bucci’s, ELA’s Blu Water Grille, Mediterranean Harbour Bar & Grill, Scott’s Fish Market and San Miguel’s) will be serving their full menus at their individual locations. With stunning views, indoor and outdoor dining and a variety of cuisines, you’ll want to return often and experience them all.
While you’re eating, drinking, dancing and enjoying the sights and sounds of Music and Taste, take a stroll down the harbor to acquaint or reacquaint yourself with the variety of shops, services and amenities available for your leisure and entertainment. If you’re in the mood for some retail therapy, you’ll find it in every nook and cranny along the way. From European fashions to American arts and crafts, fine art, vacation clothing, souvenirs, gifts and toys—even yacht sales and real estate opportunities—there’s something to entice every shopper.
When you’re ready to drop a line and spin some new fish tales, inshore, near shore and offshore fishing is available through an impressive fleet of private charter boats at Shelter Cove Marina. In addition to fishing, boating options include sport crabbing, sightseeing and dolphin nature excursions, as well as guided cruises and large party boats.
Active and adventurous water lovers will want to rent pontoon boats, kayaks and stand up paddle boards. To experience the newest thrill at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, drive a CraigCat® for an interactive tour like no other (see BackWater Adventures to learn more).
Stop off at the Ship’s Store at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina and gear up for your activities. BackWater Adventures:A new way to experience Lowcountry waters
Hang onto your hat and hop aboard a CraigCat® for a tour of Lowcountry waters you won’t forget. BackWater Adventures, operating in Florida since 2010, is pleased to bring this new experience to Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, starting this spring.
A CraigCat is a boat that looks like a catamaran and operates like a sports car for the water. Each craft seats one driver and one passenger and can reach speeds up to 30 mph.
“CraigCats are fast and maneuver like a hovercraft, which makes them a blast to drive. We like to describe them as ‘go carts on the water!’” said Allen Elefterion, owner/operator.
As a guest, you get the independence of driving your own boat and the security of a guide (who drives in another boat) who knows the waters and will keep you safe. This is an interactive adventure which seeks wildlife, sea life and beautiful waterways to entertain both young and old alike.
According to Elefterion, the boats are easy to drive, even for inexperienced boaters. “They are super safe, designed never to flip over, and you really can’t do anything wrong.” However, you must be 18 years old with a valid driver’s license to operate the boat. Children five years old and up may ride on the boat with an adult.
Your 2.5-hour sightseeing tour will take you from Shelter Cove Marina to Harbour Town for pictures of the iconic lighthouse. You’ll continue on to Daufuskie Island and then to the May River and back, with scenic stops along the way. In addition to your own photo-ops, the guide will take pictures and videos, which will be e-mailed to you at no additional cost to commemorate your trip.
“This is not one of those boring sightseeing tours,” Elefterion said. Come out and experience it for yourself. It’s amazing.”
BackWater Adventures is located at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, departing from Dock B. For more information or to book your tour, visit backwateradventure.com or call (843) 300-8556.
