Coastal Event Rentals

A splendid party has a very particular sound. The seamless melting of voices, one on top of the other, one beginning and another ending without pause, creates a pleasant din, above which music accompanies the conversation with mood-altering waves of melodies selected to set a singular mood. The really good soirees appear effortless; the guests are relaxed, the hosts are happily hospitable, the food is served and then cleared away without fanfare, the service is solicitously unobtrusive, and everyone has a wonderful time. Coastal Event Rentals, Hilton Head Island’s party and event rental and planning experts, is devoted to making this possible.

Owner Mike Wilson knows that if you want to be certain beyond a reasonable doubt, that your event is going to be well-executed, his company is the right choice. “There is so much more to this than me renting you some chairs. This is an event that you’re going to remember as a significant life experience. We’re in the business of ensuring that your day makes great memories for you. You want us to be on time. You want everything to be in good condition. You want us to drop off, set up, and pick up when we’re supposed to. The last thing you want is to take on the role of planner or logistical coordinator on the day of your event. You’re not hiring me to drop off some chairs. You’re hiring me to make sure that you can enjoy your day and have the experience you’ve been planning for.”

Coastal Event Rentals has earned a sterling reputation for quality products, for reliability from the planning stage of the event to its finale, and for having a true heart for making every affair one to be remembered. It begins with a commitment to having a well-maintained, fresh inventory of everything needed to execute dream-come-true occasions. “This has been a tremendous growth year in terms of acquiring equipment, tailored to what our clients are looking for in the right quantities and colors,” Wilson said. “We have added to our tent and chair inventories and to our linen, china, glass, and silverware inventories. Toward the end of 2014, we replaced 75 percent of our white padded chair inventory, along with some tables.”

Specialists at creating a look, Wilson’s inventory also includes dance floors, staging, several styles of chairs, including the elegant Chiavari chairs, and tables of every shape and size; even the much sought after farm tables. With the resources and creativity to be able to make suggestions to build on the client’s vision, and wishes, working within their budget, Wilson said, “We have access to items that aren’t necessarily carried locally. There’s really nothing I can’t find.”

Some of the Lowcountry’s most fantastic features may also present some of the greatest challenges to managing an event. Wilson and his team tap into their well-honed local knowledge, taking into consideration everything from weather and traffic, to town regulations and requirements, to the timing of the tides. Events taking place on the beach present a particular set of challenges, and no one is better fit to pass those tests. “Often people don’t know that the town has guidelines for events being held at the beach,” Wilson said. “For example, you have to fill out a beach wedding permit. It’s not a big deal and it doesn’t cost anything, but they want to know what’s going on: the when, and where, and for how many. The town has certain stipulations for when and for how long an event may be set up. Plus, you’re working with the tides. Everything is very time-sensitive.”

Beginning his Lowcountry career in 1999, working with one of the private clubs on Daufuskie Island, Wilson is seeing his event bookings on this special isle growing. “I have first-hand, intimate knowledge of Daufuskie. Not having a bridge is our biggest hurdle; however, we have the infrastructure and inventory to work over there.” Coastal Event Rentals was hired to be a part of a special proposal-engagement event in 2014 on Daufuskie Island, which required planning and execution at three separate locations throughout the day. Its remote location presents special challenges, particularly when unexpected hurdles arise, spotlighting one of ways this company stands out.

Working with Coastal Event Rentals means team members have the flexibility to execute their portion of an event with the same attention to detail and timeliness whether on Daufuskie Island, Hilton Head Island or on the mainland. Trouble-shooting happens with an arsenal of nearby resources and a deep inventory, meaning Wilson’s crew can usually set snags right without ever disrupting the festivities. “We may slide in stealthily,” he said. “At the end of the day we’re going to be there for them; that’s what you’re getting when you call Coastal Event Rentals.”

Building his business primarily from referrals, Wilson attributes a big part of his success to his dedicated year-around team of five and a pool of seasonal employees who return during peak season. “A lot of our seasonal people work during our less-peak season with businesses that complement our business. Another business may not be busy when we are, so some of the staff goes back and forth. Everyone is able to keep quality core employees and help each other out.”

Married and raising two daughters on Hilton Head, Wilson appreciates the very unique nature of the Lowcountry, and he still gets excited when he sees a dolphin. “The island is a great place for kids to grow up,” he said. And for Wilson, Coastal Event Rentals, and their clients, it’s a pretty good place to throw a party. “We’re not renting you a chair; we’re renting you knowledge,” Wilson said. “The chair is the byproduct of what we do. At the end of the day, we all have to feel good about the transaction.”
