Editor's Note - May
Author: Maggie Washo
The best advice my mom ever gave me was “You attract more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.” Now some of you may be wondering why I wanted to attract flies in the first place, but that is another story altogether.
At a young age she was trying to curb my hot-headed Italian temper by showing me that it is always best to treat others as you would like to be treated – regardless of the situation. I know that this little bit of advice has served me well throughout the years – when I was smart enough to take it! Now as for some of the other things she liked to say, such as “Make sure you are wearing clean underwear in case you get into an accident,” (well, obviously!) I think she may have gotten that from the World According to Mom. You know- that book that gets delivered by the stork as an instruction manual for the baby.
Last month we asked our online readers to share the best advice your mom ever gave you. While most of it I heard come out of my own mother’s mouth on more than one occasion, I did pick up a few new pointers (see page 48).
As you read this issue, be sure to check out our coverage of Hilton Head Heroes (page 38), a local charity that seeks to help children with life-threatening illnesses. Maybe you too will be inspired to help Gregg and Lindy Russell make someone’s week with a vacation to the place we call home.
You will also enjoy reading about local entrepreneurs in The New Face of Food & Beverage (page 44). On an Island where the economy is so driven by tourism, it is interesting to see how these “kids” grew up to own their own eateries.
Be sure to mark your calendar for the 29th Annual May Fest in Bluffton (page 22). I’m looking forward to going for the first time and hope to see you there!
Enjoy our May issue and don’t forget to celebrate your mom- this month and everyday! Until next month…
