Author: Lawrence Bergin
If you are a sports fan, YesterYears is the store for you. Located at Fresh Market Shoppes on Highway 278, next to the Bonefish restaurant, Yesteryears is a sports memorabilia store featuring only the best in sports collectibles. From trading cards to framed, autographed pictures of legends such as Wayne Gretzky and Tiger Woods, there’s something to interest everyone.
YesterYears is owned and operated by Brian Rogers, a New Jersey native who has been vacationing on Hilton Head Island since his family purchased a vacation home here in 1977. Living on the island since 1995, Rogers served as chef at his parents’ restaurant, Brian’s, for several years, and was also a history teacher at Hilton Head Prep. “My family has been a part of Hilton Head for thirty years. When it came to opening my dream store, I knew I wanted it to be on the island that I love.” he said.
Rogers has played just about every sport under the sun, and his passion for sports is well represented in the store. “Our walls are filled with the legends of the past, the stars of today, and the heroes of tomorrow,” he said.
Since Hilton Head Island is a strong golfing community, YesterYears offers breathtaking photos of signature holes from around the world, including Hilton Head’s legendary Harbour Town. You can also find pictures of golfing greats such as Hogan, Nelson, Nicklaus, Palmer, Stewart, Mickelson, and Woods.
In addition to photos and posters, offerings include a full line of handcrafted model ships and over 500 historical aircraft, from the Red Baron to the F-16. In addition to the sports memorabilia, YesterYears carries display cases to showcase your collections.
The store also carries a full line of pennants and banners, sports-themed home furnishings, and autographed jerseys from such legends as Larry Bird and Lance Armstrong. A few exclusive pieces from such greats as Henrik Lundqvist and Derek Jeter can only be found at YesterYears.
You’ll even find few autographed guitars from rock and roll legends such as Billy Idol and Robbie Robertson of The Band. Or, you can purchase an 8×10 picture of actor Chevy Chase, playing the role of Fletch, complete in his unofficial Lakers uniform and oversized wig, or an old seat from Veterans Memorial Stadium.
According to Rogers, authenticity is the single most important aspect of collecting today. All of YesterYears’ products come directly from memorabilia industry giants such as Steiner, Upper Deck, and Mounted Memories.
One of the most unique stores on Hilton Head, just walking through is like a walk through every sports hall of fame you can imagine. “YesterYears is the store for the serious collector or the casual fan. We offer something for everyone, and if we don’t have it in the store, we can get it for you,” said Rogers.
