Choral Society Chamber Singers to Present Midwinter Musicale

Author: Marie McAden

The Hilton Head Choral Society’s elite Chamber Singers will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a concert of romantic music at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at St. Andrew by-the-Sea United Methodist Church.

Midwinter Musicale will feature a medley of Stephen Foster songs, traditional folk tunes and Rodgers and Hart favorites, including “Falling in Love with Love”, “With a Song in My Heart” and “My Funny Valentine”. Tickets are $18.

“It being so close to Valentine’s Day, we’re going heavy on love songs,” said Choral Society Artistic Director Tim Reynolds. “We’re also throwing in some Scottish folk songs and a couple of madrigals.”

In addition, the 20-member ensemble will perform three pieces by renowned American choral composer Randal Stroope: “Prelude to Peace”, “Tournez, Tournez!” and “Omnia Sol” (Let Your Heart Be Staid), a romantic ballad sung in Italian and English.

Selected through auditions from among the Choral Society’s 140 members, the Chamber Singers perform an eclectic repertoire of music from classical compositions to pop. The songs are traditionally performed a cappella or accompanied by one or two instruments.

Tickets for Midwinter Musicale are $18 and may be purchased at the door, at various Hilton Head and Bluffton outlets including Burke’s Pharmacy on Main Street, Paper and Party Plantation in Pineland Station and Truffles Café in Belfair Towne Village, online at www.hiltonheadchoralsociety.org or by phone with a credit card by calling the Choral Society at 843-341-3818.
