22nd Annual Chili Cook-off

What’s better than a bowl of good chili? How about several bowls of good chili? You can enjoy all the chili you can eat and more at the Kiwanis Club’s 22nd Annual Chili Cook-off, scheduled to begin at noon on October 7th at Honey Horn Plantation.
Dozens of chefs, both amateur and professional, will serve several different types of chili while competing for the title of Best Chili (by popular vote) in professional and amateur categories. Cook-off attendees can join a group of honorable judges in naming winners.
Last year the Chili Cook-off also hosted the first Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI) event in South Carolina. Competitors were awarded points within a determined set of criteria by restaurant professionals, epicureans and a few lucky members of the Kiwanis Club.
Lowcountry Boil will be on hand to entertain, and the Sheriff’s Office will be there with the Ident-a-Kid trailer. Proceeds from the event are donated to local charities; leftover chili is given to Second Helpings.
Previous award winners, Smokehouse, Salty Dog, Horney Hooters, Tapas and Longhorn are expected to return to defend their titles. Advance tickets can be purchased for $8.50 from any Kiwanis member, Burke’s Pharmacy, The Internet Café, Coastal Discovery Museum or any location of Wachovia or NBSC Bank. Tickets are also available at the door for $10.
