Fall In Love with Doncaster Outlet

Author: Bobbi Hahn

If you’ve ever fallen in love with an article of clothing (your childhood flannel jammies or that Pashmina shawl you got for Christmas several years ago) then you must treat yourself to a visit to Doncaster Outlet in Pineland Station.

This attractive women’s clothing store has been on Hilton Head Island for more than 20 years, occupying its present location for six. Formerly known as Tanner Outlet, it’s comfortably laid out with room to maneuver as you behold the assortment of beautiful clothing and accessories for women of all ages, shapes and sizes. When I visited, everything was 40 percent off, with further discounts on many items.

The store manager, Gail Guy, showed me a pretty jacket. “The hand on the fabric is fabulous,” she commented as I stroked the sleeve’s smooth cotton. I was soon in tactile heaven: petting silk blouses, caressing unlined leather jackets, fondling an interesting finished linen. “We use the same fabrics that Chanel and a lot of the top design houses use, including Linton Tweed,” Guy explained. All the scarves are 100 percent silk. The handbags are all leather, made in Italy. Oh, the leather! Whoever thought to pair words like supple and buttery with leather surely must have been thinking of Doncaster’s product. Their workmanship and attention to detail throughout is incredible—a pin tuck here, a soft little ruffle there, a line of double stitching—nothing escapes attention.

Upon spending a specified amount in any Doncaster Outlet store, a woman automatically qualifies for membership in the recently introduced Doncaster Circle loyalty program. Benefits include, a gift upon entering the program, automatic gift cards, advance notice of sales and other specials in the store. The staff is excited about this perk for their loyal customers, because they value the patronage and friendship of the women who shop there.

Whatever wardrobe item you’re seeking—a casual pair of cropped pants, a darling little skirt (skirts are back, you know), scrumptious alabaster jeans, or an elegant dress for a special occasion—you’re sure to find it here, with pleasant assistance from Guy or any of the wardrobe consultants. If you need assistance in putting together an ensemble, they’re trained to provide that service, too. Misses, petites and plus sizes are all represented, with great variety and ability to mix and match. And when you find the perfect pant suit, Guy advises that you split it up and keep it split in your closet: jackets in one section, pants in another section. (You’ll get much more wear out of them as separates, rather than consigning the pant suit to its section in the back of the closet!)

If your organization is in need of a fundraiser, Guy is always looking for ways to give back to the community; she’ll be eager to discuss their fashion shows and packing shows. (Wouldn’t you welcome some tips on how to pack your one carry-on for a trip?) What a fun way to raise money for your project!

Or what about a private, after-hours shopping party at the store for your group? Goodies such as wine and cheese will be provided as you enjoy boutique shopping at bargain prices: a win-win for everyone!

I’m impressed by the philosophy of Tanner Companies, Doncaster’s parent company. A family-run business that began as the Doncaster Collar and Shirt Company in Rutherfordton, NC, in 1931, Tanner Companies is a community leader as well as in each of the communities where its eight outlet stores are located. Guy’s enthusiasm regarding fundraising events has solid corporate backing: According to the company website, “Tanner Companies, through the Tanner Foundation gives a portion of its profits to charity on an annual basis. Our dedication to local and global communities is unwavering, and the company takes special note of those charities that specifically better the lives of women and their families.”

As a matter of fact, each garment carries a hangtag with the following message: “When you purchase this product, you help us support charities that make life better for women and families in communities worldwide.”

How refreshing.
